New York: Author E. US pleads guilty to sexual assault case against Jean Carroll A New York court has ordered former President Donald Trump to pay $8.33 million in damages. The court verdict is in the defamation case given by Karol. The nine-judge court delivered its verdict after less than three hours of arguments.
Trump called the ruling “ridiculous.” He also stated that he will appeal against the verdict. Trump came to the court to make his case and left before the verdict.
In 2019, Karel, who was a columnist in L Weekly, came forward with allegations against Trump. Carroll, now 80, has alleged that Trump raped her in a dressing room at a luxury clothing store in Manhattan in 1996. She also said that she did not say this for more than 20 years because she was afraid of Trump.
After he was found guilty in the sexual assault case, he made abusive comments against Karel and the judge through his social media platform, Truth. Trump argued in court that he did not instruct anyone to harm Carroll through his statements. At the same time, the court allowed the lawyers of both sides to ask Trump three yes/no questions. The explanation is that the action was taken to prevent the repetition of remarks denigrating the court and Karel in the courtroom.
