Serena Williams shows off baby bump at Met Gala while basketballer

Serena Williams has announced she is pregnant with her second child while WNBA star Brittney Griner stepped out with her wife at the Met Gala less than a year after she was released from a Russian prison.

The annual event, which hosts some of the most high-profile celebrities in the world, is honouring late designer Karl Lagerfield with the theme “Karl Lagerfield: A Line Of Beauty”.

Williams, who shares five-year-old daughter Olympia with husband Alexis Ohanian, confirmed the the couple were expecting again with a glamorous picture of their Met Gala outfits on Monday.

“Was so excited when Anna Wintour invited the 3 of us to the Met Gala,” Williams wrote.

Ohanian also shared a picture of the couple dressed up for the event.

“Mama & Papa love this parenting-thing, so we’re back at it,” he wrote.

“And Olympia Ohanian is gonna be the best Big Sister—she’s been asking & praying for this for a minute.”

The posts were flooded with messages of excitement and support from the couple’s friends and fans.

“Congratulations!!” wrote American singer, Ciara.

“Ahhhhhhhhhhh congrats you guys love y’all so much,” commented actor Ally Maki.

Another wrote: “Congratulations! We’re so happy for you and your family!! @olympiaohanian will be such a great big sister!”

Williams is considered one of the greatest female tennis players in history winning 23 Grand Slams with her last coming at the 2017 Australian Open while she was eight weeks pregnant with Olympia.

The 41-year-old sported a noticeable baby bump and wore a fitted black Gucci dress bedazzled with diamantes and a plunging neckline paired with a lavish pearl necklace from Tiffany & Co while Ohanian wore a simple black dinner suit.

Williams hung up her racquet last year but insisted she would be working on several other projects that she has been “wanting to do for so many years”.

WNBA star and former Russian prisoner Griner walked the red carpet with her wife, Cherelle, sporting a beige jacket and pants paired with a simple matching t-shirt.

Griner was released from a Russian prison as part of a prisoner swap in December after spending almost 10 months locked up when she was found with hashish oil in her luggage.

The Met Gala hosted several other athletes including men’s tennis legend Roger Federer who attended the event with his wife Mirka.

Federer wore a Kim Jones-designed Fendi dinner suit and Mirka wore a pink feathered dress which reached up her neck with a bow on the waist.

Australian Formula 1 star Daniel Ricciardo was also spotted wearing a Thom Browne three-piece tuxedo with wide pinstripes and shiny leather boots.
