Newly released footage from Victoria Police has captured the horrifying moment a man robbed a post office in Melbourne’s north-west.
The man, who donned a balaclava and sunglasses, entered the Strathmore store on the morning of March 31.
He walked into the Napier Street premises at about 10.20am and approached the front counter where he started demanding a staff member to empty the cash register into his backpack before pulling out a knife to intimidate them.
The CCTV footage shows the thief then briefly walking away before returning to continue threatening another worker until he forcibly transferred all the money from the till into his bag.
Another video recorded by a customer shows the man frantically empty the cash register and then jump on his electric scooter to flee the scene.
The affected post office staff and bystanders did not suffer any physical injuries during the incident.
Armed Crime Squad detectives are appealing for any information relating to the robbery and have released images to assist with the investigation.
The thief, whose face and hair were completely covered up, believed to be Caucasian in appearance with a solid build.
At the time of the crime, he was wearing a black helmet, light Elwood hoodie, black pants and sunglasses.
He donned a backpack and wore a dark face covering and gloves.
He rode away on a Dualtron Eagle electric scooter with a missing front guard and was last captured on roadside cameras in Pascoe Vale Road, Pascoe Vale.
Investigators urge any eyewitnesses who may have been in the area on Friday March 31 to come forward with further details or any cars with relevant dashcam footage.
