India - Hero Motorcorp's Plans for Electric Bike Launch

Hero Motorcorp's Electric Bike Launch Plans

Hero Motorcorp, a dominant player in India's two-wheeler market, is preparing to launch its electric vehicle model, the Splendor Electric, into the Indian electric vehicle (EV) sector. The company is working to introduce this model in the country, although it has yet to provide official details about the vehicle. Hero Motorcorp has previously entered the Indian EV market through its partnership with VIDA Electric, which has already launched two electric scooters. Over the next couple of years, Hero plans to introduce up to six different models, with the Splendor Electric being the most anticipated.

The Splendor Electric is being developed at Hero's technology center in Jaipur, where the company is investing heavily in advancing the bike's design and technology. Hero Motorcorp aims to manufacture two lakh units of the Splendor Electric every year, targeting a significant share of the Indian electric two-wheeler market. This goal comes as competition intensifies in the EV sector, with other players such as Ola Electric, TVS, Bajaj Auto, and Ather Energy each selling over two lakh electric vehicles annually.

In contrast, Hero’s target of selling two lakh electric bikes per year demonstrates the company’s strong commitment to becoming a significant player in this space. The Splendor Electric’s potential to sell large numbers reflects the growing popularity of electric two-wheelers, particularly as the country looks to reduce its reliance on fossil fuels. Beyond the Splendor Electric, Hero also has plans to introduce electric dirt bikes, and its strategies are also aimed at expanding its presence in international markets.

Additionally, Hero recently acquired the Indian rights for the Akrolenor Electric Dirt Bike, showing its interest in diversifying the electric vehicle lineup. The company’s future projects indicate an expansion into premium electric bikes and other high-performance models, which will compete with the likes of electric motorcycles from established brands. Hero is also looking to explore new possibilities in the performance and design of electric two-wheelers.

Hero’s vision for the future seems focused on offering an extensive range of electric vehicles, including electric scooters and motorcycles, to cater to both the Indian market and international customers. The strategic steps Hero is taking to develop high-quality, innovative, and stylish electric vehicles showcase its ambition to lead the market. If the plans for the Splendor Electric succeed, it could significantly contribute to the company’s goals of achieving strong annual sales figures and establishing itself as a top competitor in the Indian electric vehicle industry.
