India - Deportation of Illegal Immigrants Highlights Risks

Deportation Exposes Dangers of Illegal Immigration

There was a report recently that Indians who illegally resided in the United States have been deported and back to India through Chandigarh. These people had taken illegal settlement as an excuse and were deported when an air-force plane from military landed at Amritsar airport. One of them is Jaspal Singh, a resident of Hardorwal village of Gurdaspur. According to sources, Jaspal Singh had been caught by the U.S. Border Patrol early this year. He was on a chain of undocumented migrants, briefed by a travel agent that guaranteed to deliver him to the U.S. in a safe manner for a fortune.

The agent had earlier assured Jaspal and several others that he would take them to the U.S. through a flight from Brazil; however, after four months passed without the agent's action, Jaspal decided to cross illegally. After he was apprehended by the U.S. Border Patrol, he was put into detention and eventually deported to India. According to Jaspal, he never expected deportation, saying he did not think that what he did would cause such an action. The case is not a particular one in view of Jaspal. Indians who cross-over to get good life become subjects of the trap of illegal ways of crossing across borders in expectation of good futures, where after getting trapped at times into unpalatable exploitative practices for some years as deportation from Australia and coming over to the 'home land of India'. says Jasbeer Singh, one of Jaspals relatives.

It is the perpetual issue of illegal immigration, with risks attached to it. Immigration is regulated by government policies in India and abroad. Even while Indian authorities are working on these issues, doubts arise in respect to whether Indian, as well as U.S. immigration policies are attaining the ultimate objectives of this sort of endeavor.

The U.S. government, under the Trump administration, had made it a priority to deport undocumented immigrants, and many Indian nationals have been caught in the crossfire. The deportation of these individuals, including families, children, and young adults, raises concerns about their future and the impact it has on their lives back in India. Some may face difficulties reintegrating into their communities, while others may struggle with the trauma of the experience.

This case of Jaspal and others like him raises questions about the ongoing issues perpetuated by illegal migrants seeking better opportunities abroad, only to fall prey to exploitative practices. The Indian government is bound to take steps and address these root causes that may result in such illegal migrations and ensure that the citizens it sends abroad are kept safe and treated with dignity.

In summary, illegal immigration is a problem that India and the U.S. face today. The deportation of Indian nationals shows the dangers of trying to enter a foreign country illegally and the need for better policies and protections for those seeking opportunities abroad. With tighter immigration enforcement in both countries, the future of many immigrants remains uncertain, as many still hold out hope for a better life.
