Islamabad: The government of Pakistan avoided the red carpet as the financial crisis worsened. The Prime Minister's Office has suggested that red carpets should not be used in government events. Red carpets will now be used only for diplomatic receptions.
During the financial crisis, carpets continued to be used for events held by ministers and senior government officials. With this, Shehbaz Sharif issued a notification through Pakistan Cabinet Division expressing his disagreement in this matter. From now on, red carpet is allowed to be used only in diplomatic events.
The aim is to avoid this kind of wasteful expenditure and get a profit in the exchequer. Prime Minister Sharif and cabinet members had earlier decided to voluntarily give up their salaries and benefits as part of the government's efforts to promote austerity.
