Rare Total Solar Eclipse: How to Watch from India

Total Solar Eclipse

Researchers believe that the April 8 total solar eclipse will be a rare experience. But it is not found in most Asian countries including India. Although it is said that a total solar eclipse can be seen in North American countries like America, Mexico and Canada, that is not completely true.

In the United States, states from Texas to Maine will be able to see the total solar eclipse. Elsewhere in the Americas, some Caribbean countries, Colombia, Venezuela, Spain, Britain, Portugal and Iceland will be able to see a partial solar eclipse. So how to see this eclipse from India? There is a way.

A sumptuous meal

The eclipse will be visible from 9.13 PM IST on April 8 to 2.22 AM IST on April 9. To raise awareness of this phenomenon, NASA has made extensive preparations. One of them is live online streaming. NASA will broadcast live footage from several North American locations for three hours.

In addition, conversations with travelers on the International Space Station and information about NASA's eclipse-related experiments are also planned to be broadcast at this time. People have been invited to watch the eclipse in many places across the United States. Only one NASA center will be in an area where the total eclipse will be visible—the Glenn Research Center in Ohio. There will be live broadcast from there.

Live footage from the telescope will be broadcast for those who don't want to hear commentary during the eclipse. It will be available on NASA Television's Media Channel and YouTube. The video will be from places like Dallas, Niagara Falls, Mexico. It can be seen on online platforms such as NASA+ (NASA+), NASA TV and the NASA website.

NASA believes science enthusiasts will enjoy the broadcast, which includes views and insights into the solar eclipse, from the experience of observers on the space station, to the perspectives of experts. NASA Live will be from 10.30 pm on April 8 to 1.30 am on April 9.

some things

A total solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun. During this time, the sun is completely hidden in the countries where the total eclipse can be seen. During this time, the sky will look like it does at dawn and dusk. If the sky is not cloudy, the Sun's corona, or outer field, will be visible during an eclipse. It is not normally visible due to sunlight. The total eclipse will last only 4 minutes and 27 seconds. The contiguous United States (the lower 48 states, the District of Columbia, and Central North America) will only see a total solar eclipse in 2044.

Safety

Those who may watch this, including foreign Malayalis, and those who want to be aware of the precautions to be taken in such cases, should pay attention to these things. Viewing the eclipse with unsafe lenses can cause severe vision impairment. So those who want to see it in person make sure they have solar filters made for the occasion.

Safe solar viewing glasses are required. It should be of ISO 12312-2 international quality. Do not attempt to view the eclipse with regular cooling glasses. Handheld solar viewers are also available in the market. Choose only quality ones. Counterfeit glasses are widely available and therefore one should be careful when purchasing such viewers.

If the above is not available then there should be systems like pinhole projector. It will project an image of the sun onto a nearby surface. In this way, it can be ensured that the sun rays do not hit the eyes directly. This time, we will witness the most impressive spectacle we have seen in the last two decades. Scientists see such cases as an opportunity to learn more about the universe.
