Therefore, it is more than likely that, if you are looking for an electric car to buy in 2024, you will end up looking at an SUV. If so, today we want to analyze two very interesting proposals, the Volvo EX30 and the new BMW iX2, which compete in performance and autonomy, although one is larger, has greater capacity and is significantly more expensive than the other.

For its part, the trunk of the BMW electric SUV has 525 liters of cargo capacity, a volume that reaches 1,400 liters once the backrests of the second row of seats are folded.

Engines

The Volvo EX30 engine offering includes two different options. On the one hand, the single motor version with 200 kW (272 HP) of power and, on the other, the Twin Motor Performance version with four-wheel drive, two electric motors and 315 kW (428 HP) of combined power.

Meanwhile, the BMW iX2 has two engines. On the one hand, there is a version with a single engine that develops 150 kW (204 HP) of power. On the other, a variant with two engines and a combined power of 230 kW (313 HP).

Battery and autonomy

There are also two battery options for the EX30. The first, with a capacity of 51 kWh, approves a range of 344 kilometers in the entry-level version. On the other hand, the 69 kWh battery can reach up to 476 kilometers of autonomy, or 450 kilometers in the Twin Motor Performance version.

However, in the battery section, the iX2 only offers one battery pack, a unit with 64.7 kWh of energy capacity that allows it to approve between 449 and 478 kilometers of autonomy per charge.

Standard equipment

Regarding standard equipment, the Volvo EX30 (Core finish) includes adaptive cruise control, parking sensors, traffic jam assistant, lane change warning, blind spot monitoring, LED headlights, 12-inch central touch screen, 3 inches with Google Assistant, Google Maps and Google Play Store; and collision prevention system, among others.

In the case of the entry-level BMW iX2, among its most notable standard equipment are elements such as parking assistant, tire pressure monitoring, 17-inch wheels, multimedia system with touch screen and digital instrument panel, brake electric parking, dual-zone air conditioning and LED headlights, among others.

Prices

The price of the entry-level BMW iX2 in Spain is 50,500 euros. This model can benefit from aid from the MOVES III Plan, in which case (including scrapping), the final purchase price is reduced to 43,500 euros.

Conclusion

As you may have already seen, the BMW iX2 is 320 mm longer, 10 mm wider and 5 mm higher than the Volvo EX30, in addition to offering 40 mm more wheelbase and a boot with 200 more liters without giving up space. the rear seats, and up to 500 liters of capacity with the rear seatbacks folded down.

The engine offering is more powerful in the Volvo EX30. It has in its favor the possibility of choosing between two batteries, which reduces the final sales price. Meanwhile, the autonomy in the version with the larger capacity battery is practically identical in both models.

The standard equipment is quite complete in both cases, with almost everything you can expect from a new car to buy in 2024. However, in the price section the balance tips on the side of the Volvo model, which is 13,000 euros cheaper if we compare the entry-level versions, and almost 8,000 euros cheaper in the version with greater autonomy.
