The Porsche Taycan Turbo GT sets a spectacular lap.
Wearing the Nürburgring crown is something that many aspire to but that only a few achieve. Since achieving the absolute is something extremely exclusive, it is in the different categories where the most interesting fights are. In recent years one of the most entertaining has been electric cars, which now almost change king.
Porsche and Tesla have been alternately stealing the title for quite some time, although the current title holder is the Rimac Nevera, which in 2023 managed to lap the Green Hell in 7:05.29 minutes.
Neither of the two brands in the running have managed to take it away, since the Tesla Model S Plaid was almost 20 seconds slower… although the German manufacturer has been very close to dealing the final blow with its most powerful car to date, the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT.
The sportier side of the model has managed to set a time of 7:07.55 minutes, practically touching the time of the Nevera, although being unable to surpass it.
Despite this, it has helped it become the fastest four-door model on the Nürburgring and being able to see such a feat in first person is always a dish of good taste:
Furthermore, we must give credit to the German, because the difference with the absolute electric record is just over two seconds, but the difference in performance between both models is much greater, so let's put it all in context.
The Rimac Nevera is a hypercar equipped with a propulsion system made up of four electric motors (one associated with each wheel) that develop a combined power of 1,914 HP and a maximum torque of 2,360 Nm.
This allows it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 1.97 seconds, reach 300 km/h from a standstill in 9.3 seconds and set a top speed of 412 km/h.
Next to it, the figures that the Taycan Turbo GT manages seem almost earthly.
The Porsche also has all-wheel drive, although in its case it is provided by two motors, one associated with each axle. At base, they develop a combined power of 790 HP, a figure that increases to 1,033 HP, for two seconds, when the Launch Control function is activated.
However, it can develop even more power, specifically 1,108 HP, when the 'Attack Mode' is activated, which the pilot, Lars Kern, uses very appropriately during the record. In any case, the maximum torque is always 1,340 Nm.
Thanks to this, it is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.3 seconds, which is reduced to 2.1 seconds if the Weissach package is equipped), and reaches a maximum speed of 306 km/h.
With all this in perspective, it is clear that Porsche has been able to get much more out of its model, which has remained very close to the Nevera despite having 800 HP less and having a top speed 100 km/h lower (although this You can't get as much out of it in the Green Hell).
What is not earthly is its price: the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT is available from 268,685 euros.
