Force Motors has released images of the Gorkha 5-door SUV. The Mahindra Thar Armada is the main rival of the Gorkha 5-door SUV, which is expected to be launched in India by the middle of this year. Three years after the release of the existing 3-door model of the Gorkha, Force Motor has come up with the 5-door Gurkha.
The previous generation Gurkha came in three-door and five-door body styles. But the current model had only three doors. The arrival of the five-door Gurkha is a solution to this problem. Other than the difference in the doors, only minor design changes will come from the 3-door model.
The Gurkha's boxy design is reminiscent of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class. Instead of round headlamps, the Gurkha 5-door will have square headlamps. 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels make the exterior look more polished.
A 4 wheel drive option is available on the Gurkha 5 door. There are manual diff lock levers on the 3-door model and a separate knob for the 4-wheel drive. The Gurkha 5-door will arrive in 5-seater, 6-seater and 7-seater configurations. This will give customers more options to choose from. The wheel space has increased by 425mm. Therefore, the 5-door Gurkha will have a wider interior space.
The 2.6-litre diesel engine in the 3-door Gorkha will be the same as in the 5-door Gurkha. The engine is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. There are also hints about when it will be released and how much it will cost. The Gorkha 5 Door is expected to arrive in the first quarter of the next financial year (April-June 2024). The Gorkha 3-door is priced at Rs 15.10 lakh. A 5 door Gorkha can be expected to cost around Rs.1.5 Lakhs more.
Mahindra Thar Armada
Mahindra is gearing up to launch Armada, the 5-door model of the popular off-roader Thar. The main rival of the Gurkhas will be the Armada. Mahindra is trying to launch the Armada by June-August. Naturally, the 5-door Thar Armada will be a larger vehicle than the 3-door Thar.
Similar to the Gurkha, only minor changes can be expected on the Armada's exterior compared to the 3-door Thar. 19-inch alloy wheels will be the main feature. The color of the interior changes from full black on the 3-door to a light brown-black on the Armada. Expect a larger 10.25-inch infotainment system and LED setup up front.
The 3-door Thar is offered with a 2.0-litre petrol engine that churns out 150hp of power and a maximum torque of 320Nm, and a 2.2-litre diesel engine that churns out 130hp of power and a maximum torque of 300Nm. Armada will also arrive with the same engines. The engine will be mated to a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission.
