Hyundai India has entered the Indian electric vehicle market with the Creta EV. Footage of this electric mid-size SUV doing a test run in India and South Korea has surfaced. When it launches in March next year, the Hyundai Creta EV will have at least four major rivals in the Indian market.
The Creta EV will share features with the facelifted Creta and Ioniq 5 that were launched in India in January. The Creta EV will have to compete with electric vehicle models from Tata, Mahindra, Maruti and MG Motor. By the time the Hyundai Creta EV is released, it will have been seven to eight months since the Tata Curve EV arrived. Mahindra XUV 400 will have been in the market for two years by then. The MG ZS EV has become a model with five years of experience. The Creta EV will arrive soon after the release of Maruti Suzuki's EVX.
Hyundai India has not released details about the Creta EV's size. At the same time, it is expected that the Creta EV will have close similarities with the Creta in the market in terms of size. If you look at it, the Creta EV is also the longest in the group. Maruti's EVX will have a longer wheelbase (2,700mm). Meanwhile, the Creta EV (2,610mm) is not far behind in terms of wheelbase. Tata's Curve EV will have larger tires – 18 inches. The Creta EV and ZS EV will get 17-inch tires while the XUV 400 will get 16-inch tyres. Neither the Curve nor the ZS EV nor the XUV 400 can compete with the current Creta in terms of boot space (433 litres). But when it comes to the electric model, the possibility of less boot space cannot be ruled out. Behind is the Curve EV with 422 liters of boot space.
The Creta promises a range of 450 km with a 45kWh battery pack. Meanwhile, a range of 250 km can be expected in real time. The ZS EV has a 50.3kWh battery and the XUV 400 has a 39.4 kWh battery. The Creta EV can churn out 138hp of power and a maximum torque of 255Nm. While the ZS EV has 177hp and 280Nm of torque, the XUV 400 has 150hp and 310Nm of torque. It can be understood from this that the Creta EV will be the least powerful model compared to other models in the segment.
Hyundai Creta has all the features like ADAS safety, six airbags, panoramic sunroof, 360 degree camera, digital instrument cluster, infotainment system, ventilated seats and climate control. The most budget-friendly vehicle in the bunch, the XUV400 lacks ADAS safety, 360-degree camera, panoramic sunroof and ventilated seats. Another model without a sunroof is the Tata Curve EV. The Crate has a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch infotainment system. Tata, Maruti and Hyundai excel in features.
Maruti's EV variant, the EVX, is ahead in terms of features as well as price. The EVX is priced between Rs 23 lakh and Rs 25 lakh. Meanwhile, the price of Creta EV is expected to be close to 20 lakhs. The most budget-friendly XUV 400 is priced between Rs 15.49 lakh and Rs 17.49 lakh. The MG ZS EV is priced between Rs 18.98 lakh and Rs 24.98 lakh.
With the arrival of Toyota's eVX form in 2026, it will also pose a challenge to the Creta EV. Mahindra's BE.05 SUV will also compete with the Creta EV in October next year.
