Rimac's Revolutionary Electric Robotaxi Unveiling June 26

The new car from Rimac Automobili is going to be unveiled on June 26 and no, it is not an electric hypercar capable of breaking all records. Mate Rimac's company has very ambitious future plans that go beyond hypercars.

Rimac Automobili has grown exponentially in recent years. The Croatian company has gone from manufacturing one of the best electric hypercars in the world to being responsible for the electrification of Bugatti. Nothing else. Mate Rimac will use the experience of his company to create the first electric Bugatti in history and, along the way, some hybrid vehicles.

However, despite the magnitude of the order received by Rimac after the joint venture created with Porsche, the company has not abandoned the development of its own vehicles, with the Rimac Nevera being the jewel in the crown. Curiously, the Nevera is not going to be the only car that the brand is going to have in its portfolio, since on June 26 they are going to present a second model.

Things get even more interesting when we discover that nothing – or almost nothing – is going to have this new model in common with the Nevera hypercar, the car that managed to break 23 records in a single day, including managing to go from 0 to 100. km/h in the shortest possible time (1.82 seconds, to be precise).

Rimac's new car will be unveiled on June 26

In just three months, Rimac will unveil an electric robotaxi that they have been working on for the last five years. The company has revealed a teaser video, unfortunately, it does not provide too many details.

However, it does hint that this new vehicle will have the appearance of a compact vehicle with a very elongated A-pillar and a somewhat sloping rear. For now, all we have is his silhouette cut out on a sheet of paper.

Various sources suggest that Rimac aims to have its autonomous vehicles on the road by 2026. The company described the robotaxi as a “revolutionary vehicle built on an entirely new platform designed around safety and comfort.” In addition, it will have infotainment functions that can be controlled through a mobile app.

Built under Project 3 Mobility, the development program received contributions from Hyundai and Kia, which bought a $90 million stake in Rimac in 2019.

Since then, the company has also received significant investments from Porsche, which now owns 24% of the Croatian startup and has entrusted, as we said above, Bugatti's future developments to Mate Rimac.

“People see us as the hypercar company, but we have a lot of other things in the pipeline and we have a longer-term perspective,” Rimac told Tech Crunch in an interview in 2021.

“I think that the new mobility will really mean a change in society. Just like phones didn't just change the phone industry. Apple not only revolutionized Nokia, it changed our lives. “I think the next big change we will have is mobility,” added the company founder.

For now there is little official information about the robotaxis that Rimac is going to put into operation in the next two years. Some sources assure that the company already has agreements to operate its robotaxis with 5 cities and is in talks with over 35 worldwide.
