Cambodia Bans Musical Horns Amid Road Safety Concerns

Cambodia road safety

Phnom Penh: Cambodia bans musical horns after widespread complaints of people dancing on roads. The act has become a trend in the country to dance by honking horns, recording them on mobile phones and posting them as reels on social media.

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet Gathagata instructed the police departments to seize such horns attached to vehicles and remove them and install normal horns. Authorities have already implemented the ban across 25 provinces of the country. The Prime Minister said that he wants it to be implemented more comprehensively.

The prime minister said on his official Facebook account that social media platforms are seeing clips of some people, especially youths and children, dancing on the roadside to the sounds of music from horns.

Road accidents are the sixth leading cause of death in Cambodia. In 2023, 1,590 traffic-related deaths were reported.
