In India, the world's largest two-wheeler market, there is little competition for the top spot. But the competition for the two positions after that is fierce. While the Honda Activa topped the Indian two-wheeler sales figures for February, it was the Ola S1 that surprised.
The scooter market in India recorded a growth of 36.32 percent in February 2024 compared to the previous year. Leading brands like Honda, TVS, Hero MotoCorp, Suzuki and Bajaj are all in the top ten scooter sales list. A total of 4,78,414 scooters were sold in February 2024. In February 2023, it was 3,50,941. The Indian scooter market also registered a monthly sales growth of 6.77 percent compared to January when 4,48,087 lakh scooters were sold.
Top Ten Scooters
Honda Activa was the best selling scooter in India in February. Last month, 2,00,134 Activa scooters hit the Indian market in February. In February 2023, 1,74,503 assets were sold. In January 2024, 1,73,760 assets were sold. 25,631 assets were sold in annual sales and 26,374 assets in monthly sales. Honda Activa's dominance in the Indian market is demonstrated by the fact that it has three times the sales volume of the second-ranked scooter.
Second placed TVS Jupiter sold 73,860 scooters in February. It was 53,891 in February last year. TVS Jupiter managed to achieve annual sales growth of 37.05 percent and monthly sales growth of 15.44 percent. TVS sold 19,969 Jupiter scooters in February 2024 compared to February 2023. But TVS sold only 0.49 percent fewer Jupiters in February than January's sales of 74,225.
Third place belongs to Suzuki Access. 56,473 Accessions were sold by Suzuki in February 2024. In February 2023, it was 40,194. Annual sales growth of 40.50%. With 55,386 Accesses sold in January 2024, Suzuki managed to post a meager monthly sales growth of 1.96% by February.
One of the shocking performances has been done by the scooter at number four in the list. The Ola S1 was ranked fourth in the February sales list with 33,846 scooters. Honda Dio, TVS Ntorq, Suzuki Burgman, Hero Destiny TVS iCube and Bajaj Chetak are all behind this electric scooter on sale in India. In February 2023, 17,773 Ola S1s were sold, a year-on-year growth of 90.43%. 16,073 more scooters sold this February than last year's February is no small feat.
The fifth position went to Honda Dio with 25,313 scooters. In February last year, it was 14,489 scooters. 10,823 more scooters were sold this year compared to the previous year and it is an achievement that Honda and Dioc can be proud of. Dio's monthly sales growth was 7.07 percent and year-on-year sales growth was 74.70 percent.
Sixth is TVS Ntork. 24,911 Ntorks were sold in India in February. It was 17,124 during the same period last year. Annual sales growth of 45.47%. TVS was able to sell 27,227 Ntork scooters in January 2024. But when it reached February, there was a decrease of 8.51 percent. The Ntork is the worst performing scooter in this list compared to January.
Suzuki Burgman came in seventh place with 17,433 scooters sold. Bergman also recorded a huge jump in sales of 10,854 units compared to February last year (6,579 units). Annual sales growth of 164.98%!. Hero Destiny is the eighth. 17,033 scooters. Destiny, which sold only 8,232 scooters in February 2023, has achieved a sales growth of 106 percent this year to reach 17,033.
TVS iCube (15,792) and Bajaj Chetak (13,620) are at nine and ten positions respectively. Sales of Chetak, which sold 14,144 scooters in January, saw a decline of 3.70 percent. Meanwhile, Bajaj Chetak can boast of having sold 2,634 scooters in February 2023 to reach 13,620. Annual sales growth of 417%.
