US search engine giant Google has taken an important step to prevent fake news as the Lok Sabha elections approach. Google has joined hands with the Election Commission to prevent the spread of fake news related to elections.
This is part of the effort to provide authentic information to the people regarding the general elections. Google aims to bring reliable election news to people through Google Search and YouTube.
India Election Fact Checking Collective 'Shakti', a consortium of media organizations and fact checkers in the country, will also have the support of Google. Google hopes that with the help of Shakti, it will be able to detect false information online.
As part of Shakti project, Google will provide training on fact checking methods and deep fake detection to media organizations and fact checkers. Also tools like Google's Fact Check Explorer will be introduced. Artificial intelligence on YouTube will label content generated. Google has also announced that AI products such as Gemini will restrict questions related to elections.
