Tata Passenger Electric Mobility (TPEM), the country's largest electric vehicle maker, is all set to expand its charging networks to promote electrification in India's auto sector. An MoU was signed between the two companies to collaborate with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) to expand electric vehicle charging networks.
This collaboration has been announced to establish 5000 electric charging points in different regions of the country before December 2024 with the cooperation of both the companies. Both companies claim that the move is aimed at attracting new users to electric vehicles and making it more useful for existing owners.
It is informed that the electric charging stations will be prepared at the fuel pumps of Hindustan Petroleum. Charging centers will be set up in areas where there are more electric vehicles. RFID is used to collect the money while ensuring an efficient charging service. Both the companies have also expressed their willingness to prepare a payment system through cards.
Tata Motors' electric vehicle division has a 68 percent share of the electric vehicle market in India. Meanwhile, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited operates 21,500 petrol pumps across the country. Apart from this, they have also set up 3050 electric charging stations in different areas. It is reported that there are also centers with battery swapping facilities.
As more people turn to electric vehicles, charging systems are essential. The head of Tata Motors Electric Vehicle Division commented on this collaboration that expanding charging systems through collaboration with HPCL is proof of our responsibility in ensuring a pollution-free transport system.
