India's Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Monday that several Indians who were working as auxiliaries in the Russian army have been released. This step was taken on the demand of India. This move comes after allegations of using Indians in the Russia-Ukraine war. It has also been reported that Indians who were working as security auxiliaries with the Russian army in some of Russia's border areas with Ukraine were forced to join the war.
Considering the many cases that came out after this, the Russian army was asked to release the Indians as soon as possible. The Ministry of External Affairs had informed that it has held discussions with the Russian authorities to take necessary steps for the release of the Indian nationals.
A statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs said that some false media reports were also published about seeking help for the release of Indians accompanying the Russian army. The statement also stated that the Russian authorities have been informed about many things that have come to the attention of the Indian Embassy in Moscow. Following this, many Indians were dismissed from the Russian army, the Ministry of External Affairs added.
Meanwhile, External Affairs Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal responded last week that New Delhi has contacted Moscow to release Indians who were working as security aides in Russia's military and has instructed its citizens to stay away from the conflict zone in Ukraine. “We appeal to all Indian citizens to exercise caution and refrain from war,” he added.
Along with this, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) leader Asaduddin Owaisi had earlier asked the MEA to take necessary steps to save Indians.
