UK must tackle left-wing extremists: former British PM
London: Former British Prime Minister Liz Truss has accused Rishi Sunak’s government of trying to appease the extreme left. She also said that the influence of the left in British institutions is increasing.
Liz Truss was speaking in London to launch the idea of Popcorn, a popular conservatism.
Truss said most Britons are secretly conservative and are afraid to say so.
She said that this section should be activated to bridge the divide between MPs and voters.
The former Prime Minister accused the Conservative Party of inadvertently appeasing the Left ideology over the past two decades.
The Popcorn political movement aims to put pressure on Rishi Sunak to implement hard-line conservative policies ahead of this year’s general election. Stronger immigration policies, lower taxes and leaving the European Convention on Human Rights are among the main goals.
Truss said British MPs did not support such policies because they thought they were unpopular, but they were actually popular.
Liz Truss is the shortest-serving Prime Minister in British history. Truss had been prime minister for just 49 days when he resigned in October 2022 following a row within the party.
On the other hand, in the recently released Savanta survey, 65 percent of voters have a negative attitude towards Truss. Only 11 percent are in favor of Truss.
