Mercedes has launched a charger capable of supplying up to 22 kW of charging power, which is controlled through an App. Its price, 800 euros.
The near future of the motorsport industry is, as expected, the electric car, combined with alternative propulsion systems, such as hydrogen or synthetic fuels. However, one of the big problems facing electromobility is charging times, as well as accessibility to said public chargers.
In this sense, Mercedes has opted for a solution that involves simplifying the charging process for its vehicle owners. And it has launched a charger called ‘Flexible Charging System Pro’, which is capable of supplying up to 22 kW of charging power. We tell you.
The new Mercedes smart charger
Mercedes aims to simplify the charging process for its vehicle owners with its new ‘Flexible Charging System Pro’. Designed to be a ‘transportable wallbox’, it claims to take care of almost everything after the driver plugs it in.
In case you didn’t know, the term ‘wallbox’ is widely used within the electric mobility sector, as Volkswagen states on its website. It is used, therefore, to refer to the charging of batteries of electric, hybrid, plug-in vehicles or electric motorcycles.
Mercedes’ Flexible Charging System Pro is compatible with most European plug types, and can supply up to 22 kW of charging power, depending on the infrastructure on which it is established.
Although it can be installed on the wall of the Mercedes EV owner’s garage, it is also portable and can be stored in the vehicle, making it easier to use at public charging points, such as those found in the street.
Once the user plugs it in, the system autonomously manages the charging process by automatically adjusting to the optimal charging power. Safety features include fault current detection and a temperature sensor to ensure the well-being of the EV (or PHEV) and its owner. Additionally, the Flexible Charging System Pro is leak-proof and waterproof.
Can be controlled from a mobile application
For its part, it is known that the cable can connect to the Internet, allowing users to control their charging experience from their smartphone. Everything works via the Mercedes-Benz Charger App, with which the owner can define his charging settings in advance.
Through the app, users can also set their energy goals, adjust energy costs and install updates. The app also tracks your activity, so you can monitor energy consumption.
Since you can take the charging cable with you, Mercedes has designed a premium bag to store it. It keeps all the components organized and orderly to facilitate its use, so that, if you want to carry it in the trunk, it will not break or you will not have to have it lying around.
The Flexible Charging System Pro weighs about 5 kg, as indicated by the German firm. The system is available in all European Union countries, as well as in Switzerland and the United Kingdom, where it costs 715.20 pounds (835.12 euros at the current exchange rate).
