Hyundai says goodbye to its internal combustion 'N' models, in order to offer an electric range and zero emissions to its customers. We tell you here.
Hyundai's all-electric Ioniq 5 N has caused a sensation among those who have been lucky enough to try it. And we don't say this just to say it, but because in Europe this electric vehicle is now the only 'N' in the range that Hyundai sells.
Hyundai says goodbye to some of its models
The Golf GTI rival i30 N and its smaller stablemate the i20 N, which competed with cars like the defunct Ford Fiesta ST, have been axed as part of the Korean brand's push towards an all-electric future.
Both cars were well received, and the i30 N in particular helped establish both the N models and Hyundai's credibility in the eyes of European hot hatch fans.
Hyundai i30 N
The i30 N was launched in 2017 with a choice of 247PS and 276PS 2.0-litre turbocharged engines; both connected exclusively to a six-speed manual transmission until a dual-clutch option arrived along with a minor facelift in 2021. That same year, Hyundai opted to focus on the more affordable segment of the utility market with the i20N, smaller and powered by a 1.6 turbo with 201 HP (204 HP).
Bet on zero emissions models
“Production of the 'N' internal combustion (ICE) models has ceased in the European market as of this February, in line with our commitment to offer our customers a zero-emission range by 2035 and operate 100% neutral. in carbon by 2045,” Hyundai said in a statement.
“Looking ahead in Europe, Hyundai is developing the Hyundai N as a pioneer of high-performance electric vehicles. Our customers will benefit from technological advances that will make EVs even more attractive in the future,” adds the firm.
This news, however, will not affect Hyundai N vehicle production in North America, where neither the i30 nor the i20 are sold. The Kona N will stop being sold in the US in 2023, and the Ioniq 5 N has yet to arrive in dealerships, meaning the only Hyundai available in the country is the Elantra N sedan.
Hyundai i20 NCheaper cars for the coming years
Car manufacturers worldwide are choosing to offer electric vehicles at a low cost, and even more so taking into account the current price war led by Chinese brands, who offer really affordable prices, thus forcing European companies to compete for a Piece of cake.
In this case, among some of the firms that are going to commit to carrying out this price reduction and, therefore, the offer of new affordable ranges, Dacia stands out with the Dacia Spring, as well as Citroën, Renault and, in this case, Hyundai.
If we apply the aid from the MOVES III Plan, the list of the cheapest vehicles sold in Spain would include the Hyundai Kona EV, which is available for 23,590 euros, as well as being available with two engines: one with 156 HP and another 218 hp.
