At the presentation of the Renault 5 E-Tech Electric, which took place on Monday, a curious accessory was unveiled for an element as French as La Marseillaise. This accessory is part of a catalog with 104 original and personalized parts for the new electric R5.
Without a doubt, the Renault 5 E-Tech Electric is the most important launch so far this year. Although only two months have passed, the return of this classic converted to an electric car not only means expanding the range of plug-in vehicles, but also doing so with an interesting proposal in terms of price, since it will be on sale for around 25,000 euros.
Beyond prices and specifications, Renault wanted to bet on nostalgia and memories to reinvent the R5. The production vehicle – also the prototype – is very similar to the original car that the rhombus firm launched on the market in 1972 and which was a sales success well into the 1990s, when it was finally replaced by the Renault Clio.
And not only does it look like the classic on the outside, both in general shapes and in other minor features such as the shape of the headlights, but it is full of details that evoke the original Renault 5, both on the outside and inside.
The interior accessory of the Renault 5 E-Tech Electric that has given us something to talk about
Among all these details, one of the elements that has attracted the most attention and has caused everyone to talk about Renault's new electric car is an accessory that it includes in the cabin for an element as French as La Marseillaise.
Feeding the stereotype of the French and their love for bread, the Renault 5 can equip a baguette holder next to the lower center console and no, it's not a joke.
In the press release published by the brand you can read: “The Renault 5 E-Tech Electric will also be the first vehicle specifically equipped to transport bakers' baguettes. No more flour or crumbs on your precious upholstery!”
Located to the right of the center console, this accessory is actually a woven wicker basket that was designed with the help of French basket maker Marguerite Herlant. For now it is not known what price this accessory will have, although we are eager to know how many buyers purchase it along with their new electric R5.
The baguette holder is not the only specific accessory that the Renault 5 E-Tech Electric has presented. In fact, it will have no less than 104 original accessories in a complete catalog with all kinds of parts and elements.
The attention to detail that Renault has put into this new car is such that parts that might initially go unnoticed are customizable on the R5. This is the case of the gear selector mounted on the steering column (yes, like Mercedes), which is shaped like a lipstick case and can be personalized.
In the images shown by the brand you can see that the lever shows the design of the French flag, the inscription 'wt5', the 1972 logo with the silhouette of the car or a yellow 5.
In addition, the accessories catalog also includes 3D printed cubicles and a central organizer with various designs to choose from.
