Nairobi: Paul McKenzie, a preacher and leader of a prayer group, has been charged with murder in an incident in which many devotees starved to death by promising to show them Christ in the African country of Kenya. There is also a murder charge against 29 people who are his followers. In April last year, the bodies of more than 400 people were found in a forest near the city of Malindi in Kenya.
In addition to murder, Paul McKenzie and his followers are also charged with acts of terrorism, crimes against children and torture. The police informed the court that apart from those who died of starvation, a few died of suffocation and beating. The pastor was accused of killing 191 people.
The work of Pastor Paul McKenzie was to form a group called Good News International. He has many followers. The pastor made his followers believe that if they die, they can go to heaven and meet Jesus Christ. Hundreds of the pastor’s followers left behind food and water in the forest. More than 400 dead bodies were found from here. The bodies were covered in a shallow pit.
During the search conducted by the authorities, many people who were waiting for death were saved.
Pastor Paul McKenzie has also been arrested in a similar case. He was arrested in connection with the deaths of children in March 2019 and March 2023.
