BYD Seal EV: Luxury Electric Sedan Set to Enter Indian Market

BYD Seal EV

BYD SEAL sedan has been tested on Indian roads. BYD, which was introduced at the Auto Expo last year, was expected to hit the market in 2023, but could not be launched. Seal is expected to hit the Indian market next month. The vehicle comes in two battery packs and has a range of 700 km on a single charge. The price of this luxury EV will be around Rs 50 lakhs.

Design

Sealin’s design is part of the ocean-inspired Ocean X series introduced by BYD 2021. The Seal features a coupe-like glass roof, boomerang-shaped DRLs, split headlamps, flush-fitting door handles close to the body, and a full-length LED light bar at the rear. It measures 4,800mm in length, 1,875mm in width and 1,460mm in height.

Emphasis on technology and travel comfort

Seal EV is a vehicle that emphasizes technology and comfort. The first feature that catches the eye is the rotatable 15.6-inch infotainment display. The infotainment screen found on BYD’s own Auto3 SUV and E6 MPV is on the seal. There is a dedicated 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and head-up display to provide information to the driver. It allows you to select driving modes, control the AC, heat the windscreen and turn up or down the volume of the audio system.

battery

SEAL will arrive in two battery packs. The battery of the first 61.4 kWh unit in the group can travel 550 km on a single charge. The battery of the second 82.5 kWh unit has a range of 700 km. While charging the first battery at 100 kW, the larger second battery will charge at 150 kW. The India-launched Seal will have a dual motor powertrain with all-wheel drive support. With an engine that produces 530 hp, the SEAL will accelerate to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds.

The Seal will be BYD’s third model to be launched in India after the Auto 3 SUV and the E6 MPV. Combining style, technology and performance, the Seal will compete with the likes of the Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5 in the Indian market. BYD and their electric cars have been doing well globally despite their late arrival in India. The arrival of BYD’s SEAL will add more diversity and strength to the electric car market in India.
