We discover the new generation of the Porsche Taycan that arrives in 2024 and we get on the prototype of the most powerful version: the Taycan Turbo S with almost 1,000 HP and 0 to 100 km/h in 2.4 seconds.
Just four years have passed since the electric car burst onto the scene, and we are already looking at the new Porsche Taycan. The vehicle features subtle aesthetic updates along with a notable increase in performance and technology. And we had the opportunity to get on board a very special prototype to feel its capabilities.
Porsche Mission X: the electric hypercar that will replace the 918 Spyder
Recently, we traveled to Weissach (the sanctuary of Porsche high performance that you have to go to at least once in your life) to experience first-hand the performance of the new Taycan Turbo S on the road. A car that is close to 1,000 HP of power and that makes it clear that in Stuttgart they do not settle for little.
Design of the new Porsche Taycan 2024
In terms of design, the 2024 Porsche Taycan offers three variants: the Sport Sedan (or Sport Limousine), the Sport Turismo with a family body and the Cross Turismo. The latter with a slight offroad touch and exclusive features for off-road driving.
However, the prototypes that we could see were completely finished. There I was able to crouch down and observe the new bumper designs, the improvements in aerodynamics or the renewed front optics. Additionally, there will be a wide range of new exterior colors and wheel designs. Some of which have an impact of up to 40 km on autonomy.
Inside, Porsche’s signature luxury and quality are raised to a new level. Special attention has been paid to the infotainment system, which includes an updated digital instrument cluster, a huge Head-Up Display, climate control and the central multimedia screen. But now, the co-pilot will enjoy a fourth screen capable of playing streaming content.
The sports seats are extremely comfortable and offer a low driving position that will be very appreciated by lovers of speed and sensations. Additionally, with the optional air suspension, the vehicle can be raised in half a second when the door is opened to facilitate access for occupants. Features that simply impress.
Performance of the Porsche Taycan 2024: almost 1,000 HP and charging up to 324 kW
In terms of performance, the new Taycan presents an 800 V architecture that allows a good variety of engines: from an entry-level version with rear-wheel drive and greater autonomy to the pure power of the Turbo S. The latter brings together the best of all the versions. and has up to 952 HP and 1,100 Nm of torque in all-wheel drive to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.4 seconds.
The Porsche Taycan has broken the Nürburgring record for production electric vehicles
A standout feature is the push-to-pass satellite button, inspired by Formula E technology, which provides an additional boost of power for 10 seconds. And all that energy comes from a new 105 kWh battery, which represents a 12% increase in capacity and 13% energy density compared to the previous generation.
Regarding autonomy, the Taycan can reach up to 678 kilometers in the variant with the most optimal configuration. In the case of the Taycan Turbo S, its electric range increases by 34% to 630 kilometers compared to the previous version and all models will have a recharging capacity from 10% to 80% in just 18 minutes.
Or what is the same, 315 kilometers in 10 minutes in high power stations with up to 300 kW stable for 5 minutes. Although I must add that in my case, we reached a peak of 324 kW for approximately 120 seconds. Time is money (and electrons)!
On the other hand, the dynamic leap is reflected through components such as the suspensions, with the Porsche Active Ride system, which compensates for body rolls in real time; or Porsche Torque Management (PTM), which offers exceptional grip when cornering through independent torque vectoring on each wheel.
The Taycan will be available on the market in the coming months, and soon we will learn more details about this radical electric vehicle that we can’t wait to drive. It will have a starting price of 105,682 euros and the Porsche Taycan Turbo S will go up to 217,106 euros.
More than a family car, it is a true supercar. Although the best message is the one that was launched from the Nürburgring: absolute production car record, just behind the almighty Rimac Nevera. Quite a shame in performance…
