Islamabad: A security officer at a polling station was killed in a shooting during the election in Pakistan. The news agency Reuters reported the shooting. The firing took place on Thursday morning at a polling station in Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa region.
The firing took place when people were reaching the polling booth to vote in the general elections. At least 30 people were killed in bombings on two political offices in southwest Pakistan on Wednesday evening.
Tens of thousands of police and paramilitary personnel have been deployed to ensure security at the polling stations. It is also reported that mobile phone services have been temporarily suspended across the country as part of security measures.
The polls are for the Parliament and the four provincial legislatures. 13 crore voters elect 266 MPs for the 16th Parliament.
