Islamabad: Pakistan’s former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi suffered a heavy blow. Both were sentenced to seven years in prison for marrying in violation of Islamic law. The punishment is in the case of marrying in violation of Islamic law in 2018. The Islamabad court sentenced Imran and his wife to 14 years in prison in the Toshakhana case. Imran Khan is getting his third conviction this week.
This is the fourth court verdict against Imran Khan. Earlier, Imran was banned from contesting for 10 years and fined 787 million Pakistani rupees. Last day, he was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment in the case of disclosure of official secret. Imran had displayed the diplomatic document sent by the US Embassy at the party rally held in March 2022. The basis of the case was that the document was confidential in nature. Imran was arrested last August and is now in jail.
The Rawalpindi court sentenced Imran Khan’s wife Bushra to 7 years in prison after considering the complaint filed stating that his marriage with Bushra Bewi was done in violation of Islamic laws. Both will get married in 2018. But this time Bushra was married to someone else. According to Islamic law, a woman can remarry only after a certain period of time has elapsed after divorce. Both of them got married in violation of this law. Pointing out this, the court has sentenced Bushra’s ex-husband.
The Toshakhana Case also sentenced Imran Khan for leaking national secrets. Cipher was sentenced to 10 years in prison and a fine in the case of leaking state secrets to prevent him from relinquishing his post as Prime Minister. In addition to this, the court sentenced Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Biwi to 14 years in prison in the Tosha Khana case of corruption by misusing power while serving as Prime Minister. Imran Khan is currently in Rawalpindi Jail.
