ZURICH ∙ Javelin throw world champion and Indian player Neeraj Chopra has taken up the brand ambassador role of Swiss tourism. Swiss Tourism, which used to have only Hollywood stars as brand ambassadors, is targeting a game changer in the Indian market through Neeraj Chopra. Generally, Indian tourists came to Switzerland to see the natural beauty and snow. But Swiss Tourism hopes that Chopra will inspire new Indian tourists who are looking for adventure and diversity along with tourism.
Neeraj Chopra is a person who spends a good part of the year in Switzerland for the convenience of participating in various international sports events, for better training and aiming for the upcoming Paris Olympics. Most of Chopra’s training is at the Swiss National Sports Center in Mag Lincoln, Bern. The world champion in javelin throw enjoys activities such as kayaking, mountain biking, trekking, paragliding and skydiving here during breaks. Only skiing is yet to be tried. Neeraj Chopra says that the privacy, friendliness, cleanliness, natural beauty and tranquility of Switzerland appeal to him immensely.
According to the data of Swiss tourism, Indian tourists mostly arrive in the months of May and June, just before the high season. While the benefit in fares is attractive to Indian tourists, on the other hand they activate the pre-season. 65% of the visitors stay in hotels. Indian tourists accounted for 800,000 hotel days in Switzerland last year.
