This is the Ineos Fusilier, the electrified off-roader that comes to the young brand. This is the third model from the British manufacturer after the Grenadier and the Quartermaster pick-up. And it does not stand out for its design, as it reminds us of the Grenadier. It does this through its propulsion system, which uses electrification for the first time.
And we are talking about an electric off-roader. This model will be available with two different kinematic chains, as it will have a version with a propeller powered exclusively by batteries, and another model with a range extender using a thermal engine.
According to Ineos, this third model responds to the brand’s commitment, announced in May 2022, to have a zero-emission range. In this way they present, for now digitally, a car with off-road capabilities with a zero-emission engine and a low-emission engine.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe himself has confirmed this BEV electric vehicle and the development of the low-emission extended range version. This last extended autonomy option consists of a small gasoline engine that powers a generator that maintains the battery charge level.
Although details of these alternative systems and launch dates are expected to be confirmed in autumn 2024, for now we have to settle for digital images and this information.
“During the development of the vehicle, we quickly realized that to move towards decarbonisation and continue making cars that consumers want to drive, we need a combination of propulsion technologies,” said Sir Jim Ratcliffe, president of Ineos.
“Otherwise, we could reach a situation in which zero-emission vehicles circulate in urban areas, while other older and less efficient propulsion systems would be relegated to other places,” the president of the brand continued. .
“Battery electric vehicles are perfect for some uses, such as short journeys and deliveries in urban areas, but the industry and governments must maintain a realistic view of what can be achieved with other technologies that can help accelerate the necessary pace of change. That is why we are offering an additional engine for the Fusilier, one that drastically reduces emissions, but has the necessary range and refueling capabilities,” he concluded.
The model is developed in collaboration with Magna Steyr, a supplier in the automotive sector. Additionally, the vehicle will be manufactured at its facilities in Graz, Austria. The Fusilier will maintain the DNA of the Grenadier, but will have a more modern image and a distinctive identity.
The new 4X4 will be slightly shorter, at 4,535 mm, and lower. It will be built on a custom-made skateboard platform, with a steel body and subframe, while the doors and closures have aluminum material.
Lynn Calder, CEO of Ineos Automotive, explains: “The announcement of our third model range is another important milestone for Ineos Automotive, cementing our intention as a car manufacturer: like our comprehensive vehicle line-up, we are here for the long term. “.
