Criticism of Israel is anti-Semitism; Lebanese-Australian professor sacked by German research institute
Berlin: A prominent German research institute has expelled Lebanese-Australian anthropology professor Ghassan Hague for criticizing the Israeli regime’s ongoing occupation and attacks in Gaza.
The research institute issued a statement saying it was terminating its relationship with Professor Ghassan Hague on the grounds that he had shared several social media posts that were inconsistent with the ideals and values of the Max Planck Society.
Racism, Islamophobia, anti-Semitism, discrimination, hatred and agitation have no place in the Max Planck Society, the research said in the statement, international media reported.
The professor clarifies his position on the Gaza-Israel issue on February 7, the day when the Palestinian armed organization Hamas launched a counter-attack on Israel.
At the same time, Gazan Hague came out against the organization’s actions in supporting the Palestinians in Gaza. Hague warned that it was unacceptable to characterize his views as racist.
He said the organization fired him following an investigation by the right-wing newspaper Welt am Sonntag Institute, which alleged that his social media posts critical of Israel were anti-Semitic.
Ghassan Hague is also an educator who has been a vocal critic of Israel’s military operations against Gaza and the administration’s treatment of Palestinians.
In a statement at the X on Thursday, Hague pointed out that journalists who spread news against him are not intellectuals but ideological killers.
