Spate of Indian Student Deaths in US Raises Concerns

Chandigarh: Indian-origin student found dead in US This is the fifth case of Indian students being found dead in the US in a year. Sameer Kamath, a doctoral student at Purdue University in Indiana, was found dead at a nature reserve on Monday evening.

The 23-year-old, who completed his master’s degree in mechanical engineering in August 2023, also holds US citizenship. The doctoral program was supposed to be completed in 2025. Last week, 19-year-old Shreyas Reddy Beniger, a student at Ohio State’s Lindner School of Business, was found dead. Another Indian student, Neil Acharya of Indiana’s Purdue University, went missing on January 28 and was confirmed dead days later. Vivek Saini, a 25-year-old Indian student who had recently completed his MBA degree in the US, was beaten to death with a hammer. Akul B Dhawan, 18, of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, was found dead last month.
