The Miss Japan Association said the woman apologized for the misrepresentation and the organizers accepted her resignation.
Miss Shino apologized to her fans and the public on Monday. She said she acted out of fear and panic. The Miss Japan title remains vacant for the rest of the year, although there were several runner-ups. She said that she was saddened by her actions. Miss Shino won the pageant on January 22, 2024. She is the first person of European descent to receive this honor.
She was born in Ukraine and moved to Japan with her mother when she was five years old. They will get Japanese citizenship in 2022.
