Zero emissions are going strong.
Regardless of who it may be, electric cars are showing that they are capable of providing performance that surpasses combustion models and not only in straight-line acceleration. A zero-emission car has just achieved a more than notable time at the Nürburgring and has managed to leave behind a model like the original Audi R8.
It has been the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, the most powerful street car in Hyundai’s history and it is the first electric car to be integrated into the Korean brand’s sports family, even despite being an SUV.
It has managed to lap the Green Inferno in 7:45.59, an impressive time although, yes, it is not the fastest electric car on the Nürburgring, a title that corresponds to the Porsche Taycan and its 7:07.55 minutes, with which it dethroned by quite a margin the Tesla Model S, which in its Plaid version recorded a time of 7:25.23.
Of course, it must be taken into account that this time has not been achieved by the brand, but by Sport Auto, which has the habit of doing fast laps on the German track on its own. Although they are professionals, as a general rule when commissioned by the manufacturer they usually record even lower times, so the Ioniq 5 N could do even better.
Another aspect that must be taken into account is that apparently the time corresponds to the “short” version of the circuit, that is, the one that is 200 meters less than the current official one, since let us remember that it was expanded only a few years ago. That is why it can be compared with the Audi, since it established its time with that configuration.
Of course, as is usual in these cases, the car was completely standard and its only “advantages” were the fact that it was fitted with Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires and that it had a professional driver like Christian Gebhardt behind the wheel.
It has been he who has been able to squeeze out everything that the high-performance mechanics of the Korean model offer.
It must be remembered that it uses a completely electric propulsion system made up of two motors, one at the front with 223 HP and another at the rear with 378 HP, developing together 601 HP which, by activating the Boost functionality, increase in 10-second intervals to 641 HP. .
Thanks to this, it is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds and reaches a maximum speed electronically limited to 260 km/h.
In addition, it has an 84 kWh battery, which is a burden when it comes to going fast on a track like the Green Hell, but it gives it an approximate range of about 450 km.
Now we just have to wait for Hyundai to dare to make an official attempt, since it was already at the Nürburgring with the Ioniq 5 N and stated that the model is capable of completing two laps in a row at full capacity, achieving a time of less than 8 minutes in both.
