The Jeep Compass, codenamed J4U, is built on the STLA M platform by parent company Stellantis. It is a platform that can be built from traditional ice models to electric vehicles. Reportedly, Jeep will launch the all-electric Compass in India in 2026.
Stellantis launched the STLA medium platform in July last year. Not only vehicles with petrol and diesel powertrains but also EVs can be built on this platform. The platform, which can be equipped with both front- and four-wheel drive options, can also add battery packs of up to 98kWh. The range offered is 500 km on the standard battery pack and 700 km on the performance pack.
STLA medium platform uses 400 volt electric architecture. Vehicles on this platform will need 14kWh to travel 100 km. At 2.4kWh per minute, the battery will charge from 20 to 80 percent in 27 minutes. Electric motors ranging from 218hp to 388hp can be used on this platform. Along with the electric model, the new generation Jeep Compass can also be expected with turbo petrol and diesel engine options.
Jeep’s sibling Citroen is also tipped to use the STLA medium platform. This platform will be used in the new generation models of Citroen. Vehicles with a length of 4.3-4.9 meters and a wheelbase of 2.7-2.9 meters can use this platform. In the future, we can expect this platform in all of Citroen’s C3 hatch, EC3 EV, C3 Aircross SUV and C3X models.
The STLA medium platform also plays a major role in Stellantis’ plans to bring Fiat back to India. Stellantis is making such a move by recognizing the value of the Fiat brand in India. There are three vehicle manufacturing plants in India under Stellantis. It remains to be seen where the STLA medium platform vehicles will start production.
