Israel-Gaza Ceasefire Agreement: Hostage Release Expected

Israel-Gaza Truce

Washington: An agreement to temporarily end Israel’s war in Gaza is likely to come into effect soon. The New York Times reported the news about this. According to this, Israel’s war in Gaza will be suspended for two months. In exchange, Hamas will release 100 hostages.

It is expected that a final decision will be taken in the next two weeks. The preliminary framework of the agreement has been prepared in the last 10 days after accepting the proposals of Israel and Hamas. In this regard, a detailed discussion will be held in Paris on Sunday. A final decision will be taken after this.

US President Joe Biden spoke by telephone with the leaders of countries such as Qatar and Egypt, who are mediating negotiations with Hamas. In addition to this, Biden has also sent CIA director William J. Boones to participate in the talks in Paris on Sunday.

Boones will hold talks with representatives of Israel, Egypt and Qatar. If progress is made in these talks, the US president plans to send Middle East Coordinator Brett McGurk to hammer out a final deal. The deal aims to release Hamas hostages and provide much-needed aid to Gaza.

Meanwhile, the US and UK have cut funding to the UN agency that provides aid to Palestine. Funding for the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine (UNRWA) has been stopped. Countries like Germany, Netherlands, Switzerland, Finland, Australia and Canada have also stopped funding. Funding was stopped after Israel accused some UNRWA staff of involvement in the October 7 attack on Israel by Hamas.
