British-Indian Student Acquitted in Plane Explosion Joke Case

British-Indian Student

London: A Spanish court acquitted a British-Indian student who was arrested for joking that there would be an explosion on the plane he was traveling with while traveling with friends. Aditya Verma, an economics student at Bath University, was acquitted.

Aditya Verma was going to the Island of Menorca with his friends in July 2022. Aditya was humiliated when he said that he was a member of the Taliban on Snapchat. “In flight, this plane will explode. I am a member of the Taliban.”- was the student’s message before leaving Gatwick Airport. The Spanish court ruled that no explosives were found in Aditya’s hand during the search and therefore the threat could not be believed to be true.

Aditya was 18 years old when the incident took place. The police released him on bail two days after his arrest. Aditya told the court that he joked that there would be an explosion on the plane in a group of only friends and did not intend to harm anyone.
