Breaking News: Passenger Plane Crashes in Mountainous Region of Northern Afghanistan

New Delhi: A passenger plane has crashed in the mountainous region of northern Afghanistan. The accident took place on Saturday night in the Topkhana mountains near Kuran-Munjan and Sibak districts of Badakhshan province.

First the news spread that the Indian plane had crashed. Subsequently, the Ministry of Civil Aviation dismissed the rumor that it was an Indian plane that had crashed. A senior official of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said that a DF-10 aircraft registered in Morocco crashed in the mountains.

The unfortunate plane crash that has just occurred in Afghanistan is neither an Indian Scheduled Aircraft nor a Non Scheduled (NSOP)/Charter aircraft. It is a Moroccan registered small aircraft. More details are awaited.

Meanwhile, Russian aviation officials said they lost contact with a Russian-registered plane that flew over Afghanistan with six passengers on board. Russian officials also say it is a French-made Dassault Falcon-10 jet.

The Union Ministry later clarified that the plane was an air ambulance that had flown from Thailand to Moscow. The ministry added that the plane had landed at Gaya airport for refueling.
